Barbara Neff Price Ph.D. '56
Outstanding Achievement in a Chosen Profession
Barbara Neff Price, a member of the 50 Year Class, was nominated for this award by her class. Barbara graduated Magna Cum Laude from Lycoming College with a B.A in Psychology in 1960. In 1970 she received a M.S. in Counselor Education from the University of Scranton and in 1985 she received her Ph.D. in Educational Leadership from the University of Pennsylvania.
Her work experience includes teaching at Bishop Neuman High School and in the South Williamsport School District and being Counselor Coordinator and Guidance Counselor in the Dallas School District. She was also Coordinator of Career Planning and Placement at Keystone Junior College, Director of Career Planning and Placement and Professor of Social Science at Luzerne County Community College. During her time at Luzerne County Community College, 1982-2000, she facilitated all career planning and placement activities for the college. She developed and directed six multi-year competitive, innovative career planning and sex equity projects supported by state and federal funds amounting to over $750,000. She co-developed the Annual Alumni Career Fair and the Alumni Job Link and initiated the Annual Health Services Job Fair, the Annual Job Fair, the Annual Women's Conference and the Information Booths for incoming freshman. She developed the following handbooks for students: The Workbook; Careers for the New Millennium; Surviving Sexual Harassment; and Employment Questions, Are They Legal?
Barbara's college teaching experiences were Adjunct at Keystone College and Graduate School Adjunct Faculty Human Services Administration Program and Organizational Management Program at College Misericordia. Since 1980 she has served as Adjunct Faculty, Social Science Department at Luzerne County Community College. She holds the following certifications: National Certified Counselor by the National Board of Certified Counselors, Pennsylvania School Superintendent, Supervisor of Guidance Services and Secondary School Counselor and Certified Trainer for Human Potential Seminars.
She has also served as a Consultant to the Victims Resource Center in Wilkes-Barre, the Pennsylvania Department of Education in Harrisburg, the Wilkes-Barre Leadership Program, the Northeastern Pennsylvania College Counseling Association and various schools and colleges in Northeastern Pennsylvania.
She has earned the following awards and honors: Named Pennsylvania Counselor of the Year in 1981 by the Pennsylvania Counselors Association, Nominated by Pennsylvania for National Counselor of the Year Award in 1982, Received Ross Narghang Award in 1991 (highest award given by the Middle Atlantic Career Counseling Association), Awarded Lifetime Membership Status by Atlantic Career Counseling Association in 1994, Received Member of the Year Award in 1992 by Middle Atlantic Career Counseling Association, Received Professional Contributions Award in 1993, 1996, 1997, from Middle Atlantic Career Counseling Association, Received the Twenty-Year Service Award from Behavioral Health Services, Inc. and was selected for membership in Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society, Phi Delta Kappa Education Honor Society and Delta Kappa Gamma International Honor Society for Female Educators and Who's Who in the East.
Her community involvement includes: Philharmonic League of Northeastern Pennsylvania, Board of Directors; Victims' Resource Center, Board of Directors (Past President); Behavioral Health Services, Inc, Board of Directors; Wilkes University, Act 101 Board; College Misericordia, Act 101 Board; Greater Wilkes-Barre Chamber of Commerce, Committee memberships, Visitation, Small Business Council and Executive Women's Council; Boy Scouts of America, Executive Board Member; Wilkes-Barre Master's Leadership Program; CLASP for Unity, Board Member; and Girl Scouts of America, Scout Leader.
